At Getty Digital, we are re-imagining how we create meaningful digital experiences for our research, publications, and projects in the study, conservation and preservation of art and shared cultural heritage. Our digital tools support scholars and researchers to explore the complex information held across the Getty and to share their work with the world online. We encourage the public to explore and engage with the outcomes of these activities through online experiences and digital publications.   The Getty Digital Interpretative Development Team is primarily responsible for the Getty.edu website, digital publications and rich media experiences. We are seeking an experienced software developer with a passion for web based publications for a two-year limited term contract to work with us on our digital publication tool, Quire. Quire is a static build tool for long-form scholarly publications with a focus on art historical, conservation, and preservation research. We are a highly collaborative team where thoughtful communication; co-working sessions, code reviews, and pair programming are common practices.   As a Software Engineer, you will report to the team lead, and will be responsible for working with that individual and the rest of the team to help plan improvements and implement stable features of the Quire build tool, the Getty.edu redesign, and web software initiatives across The Getty. In this role you will collaborate with a talented team of software developers, subject matter experts, UX researchers, designers to build experiences that present the work done across The Getty with the larger world.   Our preferred software stack is Vue.js for user interfaces with data provided by RESTful APIs served by implementations in Python. The Getty is committed to using Linked Open Data across our architecture and the use of IIIF for access to rich media assets.   The Getty is among the most prestigious cultural heritage organizations in the world. At Getty Digital, we're re-imagining how we can use software to provide a, connected, user-centered experiences for visitors and art enthusiasts as they explore the rich information at the Getty, both on site and online.   We are looking for a developer to join a team of software engineers focused on the narrative, interpretive, and visitor-focused experiences across the Getty.  This team of four is responsible for the core Getty.edu website, as well as exhibitions, digital publications, and other initiatives, including a full redesign of the Getty’s core digital properties.   As a Sr. Software Engineer, you’ll report to the team lead, and will be responsible for working with them and the rest of the team to help estimate, plan, and execute major software initiatives across the Getty, as well as supporting existing applications and projects.  You will also be responsible for collaborating with and sharing expertise with a talented team of software developers, helping to set an example of best practices. You will work with subject matter experts, UX researchers, designers, and other software developers, collaborating to build experiences that help share the information shared across the Getty with the larger world.   Our software stack is Vue.js on the front end, with backend implementations in Python, data and content provided via APIs, and custom search interfaces using ElasticSearch.  Our applications are hosted via AWS and built within Docker containers.    The Getty is among the most prestigious cultural heritage organizations in the world, dedicated to furthering the study of the history of art. At Getty Digital, we're re-imagining how we can use software to provide access to our collections and research.  We intend to provide a deeply connected, consistent experience for scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts as they explore the complex information held across the Getty.   We're looking for a senior developer to work with our Research Application Development team.  This team is responsible for the online presentation of the Getty Research Portal, the Getty Museum collection online, the Provenance Index, AATA Online, the Getty vocabularies, and other initiatives focused on the discovery and presentation of cultural heritage information. It’s a highly collaborative team with regular co-working sessions, code review, and pair programming as common practices.   As a Sr. Software Engineer, you’ll report to the team lead, and will be responsible for working with them and the rest of the team to help estimate, plan, and execute major software initiatives across the Getty, as well as supporting existing applications and projects.  You will also be responsible for collaborating with and sharing expertise with a talented team of software developers, helping to set an example of best practices.
