The Getty Research Institute seeks an experienced and forward-thinking Head, Library Technical Services (Manager II) to provide management and direction for all activities, staff, and budgets involved with selecting, ordering, purchasing, receiving, and making accessible the current, antiquarian, and rare print monographs, serials and electronic resources that comprise the Getty Library’s growing research collections   Reporting to the Chief Librarian, this senior library manager oversees a team of 20 staff (librarians and paraprofessionals) in two units: Library Collection Development & Acquisitions and Bibliographic Cataloging, plus additional project-based contract catalogers.   The ideal candidate will have skills and knowledge in all aspects of technical services including e-resource management, emerging metadata standards, a broad range of acquisitions programs, linked data technology, and open access.   The Getty Research Institute is dedicated to furthering knowledge and advancing awareness of the visual arts and their various histories through its expertise, ongoing collecting program, public programs, institutional partnerships, exhibitions, publications, digital services, and residential scholars programs. Among the world’s premier art libraries, the Getty Library and its Special Collections include over 1.5 million volumes, rare materials, and digital resources, which serve a vast international community of scholars and the interested public. Through strategic grant initiatives, it strengthens art history as a global discipline, promotes the interdisciplinary practice of conservation, increases access to museum and archival collections, and develops current and future leaders in the visual arts. Getty Communications is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join a team working on Getty’s Pacific Standard Time (PST). PST is a partnership of dozens of museums and cultural organizations throughout Southern California that in 2024 will present an impressive range of exhibitions and public programs exploring the connections between the visual arts and science, from prehistoric times to the present and across different cultures. Among the themes exhibitions will explore are climate change, environmental justice, indigenous forms of knowledge, and artificial intelligence and surveillance technology. The Senior Project Manager will work with Getty Communications, the Getty Foundation, and partner with institutions throughout Southern California to coordinate an ambitious PR and marketing campaign throughout the run of the initiative.

The Villa Events Specialist will work full-time at the Getty Villa.   Plans, coordinates and supervises a wide variety and heavy volume of events, meetings and performances sponsored by Getty institutes, departments and external organizations. Manages or assists in all stages of event planning, preparation and execution. Assists with the development of the event concept, budget, promotional materials and production/project and logistics schedules. Negotiates with external vendors.

This limited term position (36 months) catalogs books and other published materials from the Whitney and Lee Kaplan African American Visual Culture Collection, consisting of over 3600 publications on African American artists and Black visual culture.  Publications include catalogs, magazines, artist’s books, pamphlets, and zines.  The Library Assistant III may also catalog other publications acquired as part of the Getty Research Institute’s African American Art History Initiative.  The position creates and updates bibliographic, holdings, and item records while performing a range of copy cataloging from simple to complex.  Reporting to the Cataloging Supervisor, the Library Assistant III works in the Getty Library’s Technical Services Department, operating within the GRI’s Collection and Discovery Division.
