Reporting to the Development Database Administrator, the Coordinator is a crucial member of the Database Team serving the entire J. Paul Getty Trust and its Programs. The Database Services Coordinator performs analytical and specialized database work in the Raiser’s Edge with a focus on gift processing. The position is based in the Development Office of the Trust.
The Getty Research Institute seeks a full-time Library Assistant III. This limited-term (48 months) position is focused on processing the library of art historian Robert Farris Thompson, one of the foremost scholars of the artistic and linguistic connections and continuities within the African Diaspora and Afro-Atlantic world. The library consists of between 5,000 and 7,000 volumes, covering a wide range of topics supporting Thompson’s interests and research. The Library Assistant will work under limited supervision and in partnership with other catalogers and archivists to sort and catalog the collection according to library standards and best practices. Specializing primarily in monograph cataloging functions, this position will create, maintain, and update bibliographic, holdings, item, and authority records. Copy cataloging work will range from simple to complex and will require bibliographic searching or use of reference sources to complete or verify data. Duties will include other processing tasks such as preparing labels, data entry, and paging materials from storage. Primary workplace will be at the Getty Center, but will require work at site in Valencia.

This position plays a central role in this effort by managing large and complex technical projects to advance Getty’s work.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join the Collection & Content Management Systems (CCMS) team within Getty Digital. This position reports to the CCMS Assistant Director and works closely with staff from across the organization, including other assistant directors, librarians, archivists, imaging specialists, engineers, subject-matter experts, and technologists to implement innovative solutions that address our user and business needs. Additionally, a key aspect of this position is collaborating with external partners on high-profile cross-institutional projects.
This position manages high-risk and complex technical projects and drives them to completion. Two major projects will kick off the incumbent’s project portfolio. The first is managing Getty’s digital component of the Johnson Publishing Company Archive project. This is a joint project between Getty and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History & Culture to bring the Johnson Publishing Company Archive, an amazing collection of over 5 million photographs documenting Black history in America, to the public. The second project is an initiative to rearchitect Getty’s internal imaging and data pipelines and will transform how work is performed at Getty. These two projects demonstrate the exciting scope of work this position will be engaged in managing.

Assists Director of the Getty Research Institute (GRI) and the Associate Director by facilitating research and/or assisting with research projects, exhibitions, and publications. The ideal candidate will be a graduate student with a strong working knowledge in Spanish and a background in Pre-Columbian art history and/or archaeology or Latin American studies.
Maintains, repairs, inspects, installs and replaces plumbing systems, pipes, fittings and fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas and drainage systems. Cuts, bends, threads and fits pipes with adjoining pipe assemblies. Repairs leaks and clears clogged drains. Installs sinks, showers, toilets, water heaters and related plumbing fixtures. May replace tile, replaster or paint walls through which holes have been made to gain access to plumbing. Interprets blueprints and works from sketches or verbal instructions. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
The Getty Research Institute seeks a Library Assistant/Metadata Assistant IV to work with the Research Services team at the Getty Library to fulfill Reproductions and Permissions requests submitted in the Special Collections Reading Room, mostly from Getty staff and onsite requestors. Reporting to the Metadata Specialist I, the Metadata Assistant IV’s primary duties are to assist in the processing of daily requests for image orders, reviewing rights information and entering metadata into the OpenText Media Management System (OTMM) the Getty’s Digital Asset Management System (DAM), thereby facilitating delivery, use, and re-use of each image requested for reproduction. Other duties may include, paging, shelving, and circulating Special Collections items using the Getty’s integrated library system, Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo, to manage library materials and patron requests, and working with colleagues to maintain storage vaults.
The Metadata Assistant IV provides services to a wide variety of staff and researchers, replies to routine queries, and refers more complex queries to the Metadata Specialist, reference librarians, or curators as appropriate. Participates in additional projects as assigned.

Working under general supervision, the Logistics Warehouse and Mail Services Supervisor plans, directs, and administers the Warehouse and Mail Services teams. This includes maintaining and overseeing inventory of supplies, receiving, storing, delivery of items, and coordinating the logistics processes throughout all Getty sites. Ensure all work orders are executed correctly and completed in a timely manner based on specified requirements. Also responsible for all Warehouse and Mail Services assets, auto fleet, and equipment for the J. Paul Getty Trust.

Our Mission
The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts by collecting, conserving, exhibiting, and interpreting works of art of outstanding quality and historical importance and is one of four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust. The Museum operates two sites, the Getty Villa in Malibu, which exhibits its collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, and the Getty Center in Brentwood, which displays its collections of European art: Medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts, paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, drawings to 1900, and photography to the present day (including non-European works). The Museum mounts approximately 25 temporary exhibitions a year across its two sites; maintains an annual permanent gallery improvement program and offers wide-ranging and ambitious programming for its visitors.
The Opportunity
The J Paul Getty Museum seeks an experienced project manager to coordinate project related activities in its Preparations Department. Reporting to the Head of Preparation, the Senior Project Manager will perform multifaceted management work coordinating the planning and initiation of short to medium term projects at various levels of completion; monitor scheduling and progress; and communicate with project stakeholders, management, and relevant parties.
The Senior Project Manager will join a large, dedicated team of technical specialists skilled in art handling and installation; packing, crating and storage; specialist furniture fabrication and finishing; gallery lighting and digital media hardware installation. The department ensures safe handling, movement, and storage of the Museum’s permanent collection, and installs its temporary exhibitions and permanent collection galleries, at both sites. The team comprises twenty full-time staff at the Getty Center and four full-time staff the Getty Villa.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced planner and project manager in construction, fabrication, or fine art logistics capable of addressing changes in scope, schedule and budget with a working knowledge of project management software. They must be able to demonstrate the ability to establish goals and objectives; prepare reports and schedules; communicate effectively with all stakeholders; and capable of planning, assigning and supervising work of others. The successful candidate will also exercise sound judgement in making critical decisions; analyze information; develop plans to address identified issues and risk; and demonstrate sound negotiation and facilitation skills.
The Getty Library seeks an experienced candidate to work as a Reference Librarian I with the Reproductions and Permissions team assisting with public services activities. Reporting to the Head of Reproductions and Permissions, the Reference Librarian I’s primary duties are to assist with the management and fulfillment of requests for digitization and permission to publish Special Collections materials, many of which are complex and require knowledge of a variety of systems and a general knowledge of intellectual property and copyright issues. Additionally, the Reference Librarian I staffs a public service desk as assigned, and assists with queries from a diverse group of library users (including the public, staff, residential scholars, and registered readers) while referring more complex queries to the Head of Reproductions and Permissions or additional Reference Librarians as appropriate.
