The Getty Library seeks a Library Assistant II to work with the Special Collections Reading Room team to assist with public service activities and oversee the Special Collections Reading Room. Reporting to the Special Collections Reading Room Supervisor, the Library Assistant II’s primary duties are to assist in the daily operations of the Special Collections Reading Room which include: retrieving and shelving Special Collections materials; working with colleagues to maintain storage vaults; conducting inventories of Special Collections material; monitoring and maintaining Special Collections Reading Room and Seminar Rooms. Uses online library system Ex Libris’ Alma to create, maintain and update holdings and item records.  The Library Assistant II provides services to a wide variety of staff and researchers.  The Library Assistant II also replies to routine queries from staff and researchers; refers more complex queries to the Library Assistant IV, the Special Collections Reading Room Supervisor, reference librarians and curators as appropriate. Participates in additional projects as assigned.

Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, and part of a high energy team, the Patron Program Associate will be a key player in growing and supporting the Getty Patron Program.   The Associate will provide administrative and programmatic support for the rapidly growing Getty Patron Program with a specific focus on Patron renewal cycles, support at Patron events, and regular Patron communications. The Associate will play an important role in managing the solicitation, renewal, and stewardship of members of the Getty Patron Program. This position is primarily administrative, however there is significant interaction with Donors in-person and by phone/zoom/email. Significant work takes place on Getty campuses and off-site during evenings, weekends, and early mornings. This position is full time on-campus (non remote).

Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the Development Coordinator/Donor Concierge (DC) will be responsible for providing administrative assistance to the execution of the Getty Patron Program; providing concierge services to the Getty donor community (high level Patron Program constituents, Founder’s Society Members, Getty Fund donors, and Corporate Partners), and providing administrative support for the Director of Individual Giving or other administrative support, as assigned. This position is full time on-site (non-remote) at the Getty Center.   The Development Coordinator/Donor Concierge works independently with minimal supervision in a very fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities. The DC excels at handling multiple tasks, anticipates and proactively resolves problems, is a team player, and is flexible and adaptable. The DC delivers excellent customer service and partners with other support staff and colleagues. Handles classified and delicate work with a high level of discretion, good judgement, accuracy, and attention to detail.

The Getty Research Institute seeks a full-time limited-term (through June 23, 2023) Research Specialist for the Florentine Codex initiative, which aims to digitize and publish the online Digital Florentine Codex, an enhanced digital edition of the codex along with its translations and transcriptions, to produce a scholarly digital publication on the manuscript's twelfth book, and to develop K-12 educational materials related to the conquest of Mexico.   Reporting to the initiative’s manager, the Research Specialist’s primary task is to produce metadata in the form of authoritative structured vocabularies to describe the 2,500 images in the codex. This will involve identifying iconographic, formal, and material aspects of the images as well as drawing keywords from the accompanying texts. Conforming to the standards of the Getty vocabularies, this metadata will be produced in four languages: English, Spanish, Classical Nahuatl, and contemporary Huasteca Nahuatl in partnership with a contemporary Huasteca Nahuatl consultant. Other tasks may include identifying scribal and artists’ hands in the codex’s texts and images, assisting in the organization of events tied to the project (such as workshops and symposia), and producing original research for presentations and publications.   The ideal candidate has expertise in early colonial Mexican art history; language abilities in English, Spanish, and Classical Nahuatl; experience working with databases, metadata, and digital projects; advanced research and editorial skills; and is comfortable working with others in a team environment and across Getty departments and programs.

Our Mission   The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts by collecting, conserving, exhibiting, and interpreting works of art of outstanding quality and historical importance and is one of four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust.  The Museum operates two sites, the Getty Villa in Malibu, which exhibits its collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, and the Getty Center in Brentwood, which displays its collections of European art: Medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts, paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, drawings to 1900, and photography to the present day (including non-European works).  The Museum mounts approximately 25 temporary exhibitions a year across its two sites; maintains an annual permanent gallery improvement program and offers wide-ranging and ambitious programming for its visitors.   The Opportunity   The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks a qualified Senior Mountmaker to join the Department of Antiquities Conservation located at the Getty Villa. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in museum mountmaking with experience in designing mounts for a diverse collection, including archaeological materials and large-scale objects, as well as exhibition installation.  Preference will be given to applicants who are proficient in seismic mountmaking and have an interest in advancing knowledge and practices in this field. Working as a collegial and engaged team member with other mountmakers, conservators, and curators at the Getty Villa, and with Museum staff across two campuses, the Senior Mountmaker will design and fabricate mounts for exhibitions, during special conservation treatments, and supports for photography. They will undertake research into material use and technological innovation and strive to advance methods for the safe display of works of art for the display of the Museum’s collection, special exhibition program, and out-going loans.
