At the Getty Foundation, we advance art historical scholarships, conserve works of art and architecture, increase access to museum and archival collections, and help train the next generation of arts professionals. We do this in close partnership with the field through strategic and collaborative grantmaking.
We are seeking a thoughtful, energetic, and detail‑oriented professional with a strong interest in arts philanthropy to join our team as a Program Assistant.
The Grants Programming team consults with experts at Getty and around the world including scholars, museum professionals, and conservators to identify key needs in the field and develop innovative funding strategies. Reporting to the Senior Program Officer overseeing national and international grant initiatives in art history and art archives, this position offers an exciting opportunity to learn the full lifecycle of grantmaking—from project development and application review, through approval, implementation, close‑out, and impact assessment.
The role involves frequent coordination with universities, archives, and research centers worldwide and requires calls for exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines effectively. The ideal candidate anticipates needs, communicates proactively, and provides well-organized support with consistent follow-through on all tasks.
The Program Assistant will join a dynamic and collaborative team dedicated to advancing Getty’s global philanthropic work in the arts. Our campus offers a vibrant environment with access to remarkable art, archives, and special collections, a full slate of public programs and speakers, and a world‑class research library. We offer generous paid time off, every other Friday off, excellent benefits, and a strong commitment to work–life balance. The position includes opportunities for national travel for conferences and site visits, as well as additional professional development.
This position is based on-site, and candidates must reside within a commutable distance of the Getty Center in Los Angeles. The Foundation also offers a hybrid telework policy for which this role is eligible, based on satisfactory job performance.
