Job Summary

At Getty Digital, we're re-imagining how we can use data, software, and systems to provide a deeply connected and consistent experience for staff, scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts as they explore the rich and complex information held across the organization.

We are seeking a domain expert and talented manager for the role of Collection Systems Manager to lead a team of seven who oversee and administer Getty’s suite of collection management applications. This constellation of systems supports museum, library, and archives collection management functions, specialized collection data management (Getty Provenance Index, Getty Vocabularies), and digital asset management. This represents a unique opportunity to oversee the platforms essential for managing and disseminating Getty’s collection and research assets.

The Collection Systems Manager will support Getty Digital’s initiative to modernize workflows, reduce system redundancy, and further harmonize use and practices across our ecosystem to build a consistent, connected, and collaborative digital environment. To achieve this, we are looking for an experienced and inclusive leader to guide the work of a talented and close-knit team of product managers. The candidate will have a strong background in systems-thinking, metadata schema and practice, aligning roadmaps, balancing operational and project work, and a track record as an expert business systems analyst working with cultural heritage applications.

This position reports to the Collection Platforms Director within the Public Technologies unit of Getty Digital. The Collection Systems Manager will interact with colleagues from across Getty’s campus, including engineers, librarians, museum information specialists, archivists, and staff from our communications, publications, and digital teams. Demonstrated experience building collegial and collaborative relationships across teams is essential.

The Getty is among the world’s most prestigious cultural heritage organizations, dedicated to furthering the study of the history of art. Our dynamic and beautiful campus is filled with art, archives and special collections, and a world-class research library. We offer 4 weeks of vacation a year, every other Friday off, and excellent benefits.

This position is a hybrid work environment opportunity; this is not a fully remote assignment. The successful candidate must be a California resident when employment begins and work at least one day per week on Getty’s campus in Brentwood.

Build consistent practices and workflows, aligning with practices on other teams across the organization. Serve as a key technical resource and conduit to the expertise of your team.

  • Vendor Relationships: Manage vendor partnerships, advocate for application enhancements, sponsor open source development projects, negotiate contracts, review statements of work, manage costs, and maintain strong relationships with providers. When needed, help identify new opportunities and work with our portfolio project management office (PPMO) to implement new systems.
