This is a one-year limited-term position in the Special Collections Cataloging at the Getty Research Institute. The Library Assistant III will work with minimal supervision under a Special Collections Archivist to process the Merrill C. Berman Collection of U.S. twentieth-century posters.
The collection is 68 linear feet and contains approximately 600 posters and accompanying materials such as photographs, catalogs, journals, and ephemera. The thematic focus revolves around the social roles of artists and graphic designs during key social movements in the United States, notably the federally funded initiative Work Progress Administration (WPA), American social justice movements, LGBTQ rights, African American activism, and civil rights protests. The collection features work by prominent artists: Emory Douglas, Richard Floethe, Hugo Gellert, Kenneth Anger, Dorothy Fellnagel, Katherine Millhous, Donald Moffett, Jack Smith, Andy Warhol, Dorothy Waugh, and David Wojnarowicz.
The Library Assistant III’s duties will include re-housing, arrangement, and description of collection materials according to archival standards and best practices.
