Under direction from the Plant Operator on watch and/or engineering management, provides skilled plant engineering services by applying individual technical expertise to equipment, systems and controls. 

• Operates steam boilers and plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner 

• Monitors, records and maintains proper water treatment in central plant systems

• Inspects, repairs and performs preventative maintenance procedures on equipment and systems both manually and through Building Management System (BMS)

• May perform regular rounds and take gas and water readings

• Inspects, tests, and repairs kitchen refrigeration equipment during off hours

• Monitors all BMS systems alarms and coordinates with watch operator to make appropriate phone calls

• May maintain files such as the central plant log, lock out tag out records and records of completed work 

• High School/GED
• 2‐3 years of experience operating low and/or high pressure steam boilers. Basic central plant centrifugal chiller experience  
• Must be able to obtain an Unlimited Steam License issued by the City of Los Angeles within 24 months
• Must be able to obtain EPA 608 refrigeration license within 24 months
• 2 years of experience in Building Management Systems, HVAC automation controls, energy management systems, or other related experience.  2 year community college degree or certificate preferred
• Valid California driver’s license with less than 3 DMV points
• Ability to successfully meet development milestones
• EPA 608 refrigeration license, or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire 

• Proficient computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software, email applications, work order systems and BMS systems
• Ability to read and understand blue prints and control drawings
• Knowledge of water treatment principles for boilers, chiller systems, and cooling towers
• Ability to quickly respond to equipment failures by troubleshooting and restoring equipment
