This is a three-year limited-term position. The Library Assistant will work both in partnership and under limited supervision of the Project Archivist, in processing the papers of art historian Robert Farris Thompson, one of the foremost scholars of the artistic and linguistic connections and continuities within the African Diaspora and Afro-Atlantic world.
Comprising approximately 300 linear feet, the archive documents all phases of Thompson's career and includes a diverse body of original resources and audiovisual material which he used for his research on topics such as Afro-Cuban and Sub-Saharan expressive cultures. The Library Assistant’s duties will include physical processing, arrangement, description, and re-housing of collection materials according to archival standards and best practices.
Interest in art history and African American art helpful
Ability to work in partnership with others

Ability to lift boxes and push book trucks up to 40 pounds
Ability to climb ladders
Must have means of transportation to work sites at both the Getty Center in Brentwood and the Getty’s off-site facility approximately 30 miles to the north
