Job Summary

The Getty Scholars Program seeks a departmental research assistant who will facilitate research on projects and/or assist with programs, departmental activities, and publications. The ideal candidate will be a graduate student in Art History, or a related field, who possesses diverse research experience, strong organizational skills, and has worked in an academic institution. Field of specialization is open.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Provides Scholars Program staff with research and publication assistance.
  • Creates and distributes theme-relevant bibliographies, references, and documents.
  • Assists with creation of website content and departmental Power Point presentations, as well as organizing departmental photographs and records.
  • May assist with publications by communicating with authors, updating essay drafts, and assisting editors in checking page proofs, proofing indexes, etc.
  • Proofreads, edits, and translates as needed.
  • May assist with other departmental activities, such as internal and external communication with current and future scholars, disseminating the yearly scholar theme announcement, and the running of the Consortium Seminar
  • May assist with departmental events, such as scholar orientation and the meetings associated with the selection process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in art history or related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • 0-2 years research experience (education may be considered) and/or experience working in an academic institution
  • Working knowledge in at least one foreign language preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to build relationships and work on teams
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines for oneself.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe software suites preferred; ability to design and/or produce outward-facing materials for the department is highly desirable.
