Job Summary

Getty Communications seeks to inspire joy and insight by sharing art and intellectual output.  It seeks to increase global, national, and regional awareness of Getty, its programs, and its impact as a leading institution advancing visual art and cultural heritage for the benefit of all. Through creative content development, public relations, marketing, social media and digital communications efforts, it expands access to Getty content and engages both professional and public audiences.

 

We are looking for an experienced manager of web content and UX strategy to drive the continual evolution of Getty’s institutional website and lead our web content, visual design and UX team. The Assistant Director of Web Content Strategy is responsible for guiding the user-driven content strategy, design, organizational content governance and maintenance of Getty.edu, working closely and collaboratively with the web team, external vendors, the front-end engineering team within Getty Digital, and across all Getty units and programs to ensure design and content meets the needs of professional and general audiences.

 

The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative, possess a confident, open, and energetic leadership style, and have extensive knowledge of content strategy, governance, analytics, UX design/research, digital visual design, SEO best practices, and accessibility standards.

 

This is a full-time position reporting to the Vice President of Getty Communications. 

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Develop a web governance system for the content strategy, design, and maintenance of Getty.edu, the primary website for Getty and its programs

  • Co-lead the ongoing redesign of Getty.edu with a technical counterpart, which includes phased introduction of a new, user-centered IA

  • Communicate with redesign team and stakeholders across Getty about new developments, directions, and policies

  • Encourage and provide support for the production and implementation of consistent, strategic, creative, and unified web design and content across the organization’s web properties that reflects user needs and organizational content priorities, including establishing policies and processes

  • Supervise the work of a professional team specializing in content design/strategy, UX design/research, digital visual design, project management, and content production to ensure continual updating of design and content for Getty.edu

  • Collaborate with other professionals in Getty Communications to ensure web content is engaging and reflects brand standards and current institutional priorities

  • Establish meaningful KPIs for SEO and user experience, time on site, and other measures of content engagement, and institute regular reporting of web analytics to identify opportunities for improvement

  • Provide mentorship and training in best web practices, content management, and other needs across Getty

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and ethical standards, and WCAG 2.1 AA

  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and emerging developments in web content, web design, web development and technology
     

Qualifications

  • B.A. degree; coursework in computer science, digital content, digital media and web design highly preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted
  • 7–10 years of website, web design and web content management experience, especially in a structured content environment; experience in an academic or art-related organization a plus
  • Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent listening, presentation, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, and ability to develop and maintain close relationships with Getty colleagues.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn applications and tools used by the organization
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS; working knowledge of scripting languages a plus
  • Proven written communications skills, including writing for the web and UX writing
  • Design understanding, including UX design, digital visual design, and photography on the web
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Proven management skills and experience.

Please note: Los Angeles area residency is required. This position is NOT fully remote and consists of a hybrid in-office and work-from-home schedule.

  • Strong communication skills for a variety of audiences and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and to troubleshoot last-minute changes
  • Ability to use new technologies
