Our Mission


The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts by collecting, conserving, exhibiting, and interpreting works of art of outstanding quality and historical importance and is one of four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust.  The Museum operates two sites, the Getty Villa in Malibu, which exhibits its collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, and the Getty Center in Brentwood, which displays its collections of European art: Medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts, paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, drawings to 1900, and photography to the present day (including non-European works).  The Museum mounts approximately 25 temporary exhibitions a year across its two sites; maintains an annual permanent gallery improvement program and offers wide-ranging and ambitious programming for its visitors.


The Opportunity


The J. Paul Getty Museum is seeking an Associate Digital Media Producer for the Museum’s Public Affairs department. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Public Affairs, the Associate Digital Media Producer is responsible for the redesign, rebuild, reorganization, and maintenance of the Museum’s pages on the website, with the aim to better serve our audiences through increased storytelling while meeting our institutional goal to build our content ecosystem. This position is also responsible for managing pages on related to the curatorial and conservation departments, as well as general Museum information pages and develops new content for redesigned pages on to include News & Stories and Projects & Initiatives.


Working with key stakeholders and supervisors, the Associate Digital Media Producer will oversee the migration and updating of existing pages on that have been earmarked for retention.  Work will include making the necessary updates to existing pages and migrating them into new design templates, tracking progress, and sharing progress reports while being responsible for digital content assignments, owning and tracking them from inception through to launch with minimal supervision. Under guidance from the Public Affairs supervisory team, the successful candidate will work with a variety of stakeholders within the Museum and at the Trust to create new content for  They are responsible for uploading approved content using the Getty’s content management system (CMS), as well as sourcing images and ensuring their rights and reproduction approvals. The ideal candidate is highly organized and comfortable with operating independently and working with teams.  They also need a solid understanding of online platforms and have experience managing content for digital projects in an iterative, fast-paced environment and have experience writing, editing, and producing useful digital content for varied audiences.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Own and manage a set of discrete assignments and deliverables that ladder up to the larger Trust-wide website redesign project.
  • Populate and manage a complex digital production calendar, using project management tools to successfully manage all stages of assignments.
  • Collaborate with supervisor, team, and stakeholders to identify scope of tasks and deliverables associated with assignments.
  • Ensure deadlines are met and communicate diplomatically with a broad range of staff to generate and deliver content.
  • Edit, write, and revise content for new and existing web pages, iterating this process numerous times across wireframes and copydecks throughout the production lifecycle.
  • Manage, gather, and organize assets, ensuring content elements meet technical requirements, and check that rights are clear.


  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in digital production environment using numerous digital distribution channels such as social media, web, blogs, wikis, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Project Management:

  • Experience in integrating institutional goals with content best practices in order to produce relevant, high-quality content.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment and prioritize, produce, and advance multiple digital content projects.
  • Experience in creating and managing editorial and digital production schedules, possibly using production software tools.
  • Outstanding ability to multitask and meet competing and multiple deadlines: ability to quickly respond and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proven ability to take part in individual and team brainstorm sessions, capture feedback, and compile into useful conclusions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience in gathering, organizing, and aggregating digital content assets such as draft text, images, video, audio, wireframes, and copydecks.
  • Attention to detail needed to create and maintain asset libraries, folders, tags, and metadata across systems.
  • Successfully maintain transparent and clear communication channels, tactfully communicate deadlines, manage competing priorities, and keep assignments on schedule.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with proven ability to diplomatically give and receive feedback.
  • Strong interest in developing new skills and upgrading technical agility to expand possibilities of media production. Keeps current with trends and innovations in the media community.

Writing and editorial:

  • An understanding of UX content best practices to write useful and compelling calls to action, headlines, microcopy, and key phrases to invite user engagement.
  • Experience revising and adapting content for a wide variety of web page types, including promotional, informational, and narrative storytelling.
  • Experience working with branding guidelines and applying them to multimedia, text, and images.
  • Understanding of wireframing and UX story and user flow.
  • High comfort level iterating and rewriting in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to evaluate metrics feedback and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into content planning and creation.
  • Skill in selecting and adapting image and video assets for various content purposes and platforms.
  • Ability to crop and position images with an eye for composition and detail.
  • Knowledge of Chicago and AP style.
