Performs high-level digital imaging of collection materials for research, archival, exhibition, publication and online access, including photography and post production. Assists with digitization initiatives, executes production-level digital capture using a variety of hardware, software and methodologies. Performs expert level post-processing of image files to specifications, ensures digital asset are appropriately organized for imaging initiatives. Stays current regarding emerging trends, equipment, and standards.

• Applies expert knowledge of digital capture to document collection objects
• Captures complex and demanding collection objects at high resolution and with a variety of capture methods and technologies including infra-red, ultraviolet and 3D
• Performs high-end post-processing tasks including, file preparation, color correction, masking, layering and cropping
• Sets up and maintains imaging workstations, including calibrating monitors, installing software, troubleshooting issues, testing imaging equipment for color management and quality control
• Sets up studio including lighting and capture equipment to safely photograph complex museum objects
• Researches established imaging practices adapts precedents, works in partnership with curators and conservators to develop new methods for specialized photography or post production
• Works in partnership with Publication and Design departments on large projects, ensuring quality and consistency of the image files being provided
• Prepares and organizes digital files for ingest into digital repositories or delivery to other destinations utilizing file naming and tracking protocols
• Produces prints or facsimiles for exhibition or publication purposes
• Performs physical assessments and movement tracking of collection materials within studio spaces
• Oversees workflow for the delivery and return of works of art to the studio
• Arranges for supplies and oversees the repair and maintenance of equipment

• Bachelor’s degree in photography and/or equivalent experience
• 5-8 years experience in digital photography services

• Advanced knowledge of SLR camera equipment, medium and large format cameras, Phase One Digital Back and Capture One experience preferred
• Advanced knowledge of studio lighting equipment and light-modifying techniques
• Advanced knowledge of Photoshop and other imaging manipulation software
• Expert knowledge of color theory and digital imaging practice, standards, and workflows
• Strong ability to work in partnership and be productive in a team workflow environment as well as working alone
• Proven ability to articulate ideas and clearly communicate creative concepts and technical processes
• Proven ability to problem-solve and adapt creatively to complex imaging problems
• Proven ability to handle art objects and fragile materials
