Job Summary

As Getty’s Communications team continues to grow, the News and Media Relations team seeks an Associate Communications Specialist who has a knack for unearthing compelling stories, experience working with journalists, and interested in a wide range of topics, including art, global cultural heritage, science, technology, and philanthropy.


The Associate Communications Specialist oversees various communications projects across all Getty programs, including assisting the International Communications Manager with global and domestic communications projects such as drafting press releases, press outreach and relationship development, media research, contributing to Getty’s news platform, and developing communications strategies. Position will also manage media outreach and overall communications planning for all of Getty’s public programming, working in parntership with the team’s Senior Communications team and the Digital and Marketing teams.


This is a full-time position reporting to the International Communications Manager. The position is currently remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and equipment needed for remote working will be provided.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Creates press releases, news features, and other materials related to Getty news and projects
  • Works closely with internal clients to position events and activities accurately and compellingly to the media
  • Identifies and pitches news stories within areas of focus to local, regional, national and international media
  • Receives, assesses, and processes image/information/interview requests from the media
  • Coordinates media events and photo shoots at Getty Center and/or Getty Villa upon reopening of these spaces


  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Art History, or related degree and a minimum of one year of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience, preferably in the visual arts

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated communications skills
  • Demonstrated planning and/or project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to be self‐directed and take initiative
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Design Suite, MailChimp and/or related tools, Cision and/or related media databases
