The Getty Conservation Institute (GCI) is seeking an Institutional Archivist III to take the leading role in preserving the GCI’s intellectual property through the development, implementation, and oversight of procedures to archive complex field project and research materials. This is a three-year, limited-term position.
Reporting to the Manager of Research Services at the GCI and working closely with the Getty’s Institutional Archives department, the Institutional Archivist III will establish protocols for processing some of the GCI’s past project materials, according to archival best practices. As an example, materials may document field projects at significant cultural heritage sites around the world and may include project planning briefs, scientific research results, condition assessments, conservation treatments, environmental monitoring data, photographs, site protection planning, training records, publications, evaluation reports, and other items that illustrate the development, evolution, and history of the project.
The Institutional Archivist III will ensure materials are organized, cataloged, and transferred to the Institutional Archives department (which is responsible for documenting the Getty’s activities as an international cultural and philanthropic organization), to serve as the lasting records of GCI project activities and to be accessible to cultural heritage professionals going forward.
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school with a focus on archives or records management and a minimum of 4–5 years of professional experience with archives and/or records management in a cultural heritage or educational setting.
