  • Job Summary

    Getty is seeking a writer/editor to join our Communications team. The writer/editor will work collaboratively with the marketing, media relations, and digital content groups to develop content for print, digital/social, and other media. Examples of writing/editing assignments include blog posts, ad copy, magazine content, and internal communications materials.

    Major Job Responsibilities

    • Generate story ideas as well as work on assigned stories and projects, write and edit materials
    • Superb persuasive writing skills, organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail are required
    • Ability to write for a wide variety of audiences and applications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in the humanities (preferably in English or Art History); MA preferred
    • At least 3 years of relevant publishing experience, preferably in either a museum or university press environment

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Demonstrated ability to write for a wide range of needs
    • Thorough understanding of traditional print production
    • Thorough understanding of writing for digital platforms
    • Thorough understanding of Chicago and Associated Press Style Guides
    • Knowledge of social media platforms and appropriate voice/tone for each
    • Understanding of copyright law as it applies to arts content
    • Ability to manage projects of moderate complexity
    • Subject area knowledge in one or more areas in which the Getty is active: art history, philanthropy, collecting, art conservation, or conservation science
    • Strong initiative and follow-through, combined with willingness to work collaboratively in a complex environment
    • Ability to multitask, work quickly, and meet deadlines
    • Tact, diplomacy, and the ability to proactively develop positive relationships across a large organization
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Interest in art and cultural heritage and its connections to contemporary culture
    • Familiarity with Powerpoint and TeamSite
