The Getty Research Institute (GRI) seeks a full-time Library Assistant III to work as a member of the Circulation team. Reporting to the Manager of Circulation, the Library Assistant III’s primary duties are; managing the book digitization preparation workflow, which includes working from selected lists of special collections materials, pulling titles, assessing materials for digitization, and updating lists post-digitization, and collection maintenance “end processing”, which includes marking, housing, repairing, and evaluating the condition of library materials. The Library Assistant III will work in a team-based environment but also under little to no supervision. The Library Assistant III will work on some additional circulation tasks including pulling, sorting, and shelving books, charging and discharging materials, and editing online records. The Getty Library uses the Ex-Libris suite of hosted products: Alma, Primo, and Rosetta. The Library Assistant III may work on occasion at the Library’s Annex location in Valencia, CA.

Participates in the delivery and execution of audio/visual materials for Getty programs including exhibitions, orientation theater and live performances. The J. Reporting to and working closely with the Getty’s President and CEO, the VP will lead and oversee the development and execution of communication and marketing strategies, ensuring that the entire range of Getty’s identity is communicated effectively and that messages are well-received and in a global context, align with diverse cultural norms. Leading a team of 44, the VP will manage public relations efforts, incorporating awareness of geopolitical events and trends; maintain Getty’s brand domestically and internationally, and across diverse markets; and oversee Getty’s digital presence and social media strategies that resonate locally, nationally, and globally.

This is a one-year limited-term position in the Special Collections Cataloging at the Getty Research Institute. The Library Assistant III will work with minimal supervision under a Special Collections Archivist to process the Merrill C. Berman Collection of U.S. twentieth-century posters.
The collection is 68 linear feet and contains approximately 600 posters and accompanying materials such as photographs, catalogs, journals, and ephemera. The thematic focus revolves around the social roles of artists and graphic designs during key social movements in the United States, notably the federally funded initiative Work Progress Administration (WPA), American social justice movements, LGBTQ rights, African American activism, and civil rights protests. The collection features work by prominent artists: Emory Douglas, Richard Floethe, Hugo Gellert, Kenneth Anger, Dorothy Fellnagel, Katherine Millhous, Donald Moffett, Jack Smith, Andy Warhol, Dorothy Waugh, and David Wojnarowicz.
The Library Assistant III’s duties will include re-housing, arrangement, and description of collection materials according to archival standards and best practices.

The Museum operates two sites, the Getty Villa in Malibu, which exhibits its collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, and the Getty Center in Brentwood, which displays its collections of European art: Medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts, paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, drawings to 1900, and photography to the present day (including non-European works). The Museum mounts approximately 25 temporary exhibitions a year across its two sites; maintains an annual permanent gallery improvement program and offers wide-ranging and ambitious programming for its visitors.
The Opportunity
The J. Paul Getty Museum has an opening for two Curatorial Assistants in the Department of Photographs. Reporting to the Research Associate for Collection Management these curatorial assistans are responsible for conducting research on the permanent collection of over 150,000 photographic works contributing to the development of the online catalog, including identifying and describing images, researchingprovenance and collecting history, bibliography, exhibition history and TMS (The Museum System) descriptive text. They enter data into the TMS database, reviews historical documentation, undertakes bibliographic searches, performs editorial functions to assure accuracy and consistency, and engages in various aspects of collection documentation management. The Curatorial Assistants provide support for staff, scholars, and study room visitors with accessing the collections and responding to reference inquiries as needed, as well as preparing collection materials for imaging, housing, inventory, and other collection management tasks. The core function of this job is cataloging the collection, which requires working onsite in order to directly access collection materials in a secure workspace.

The Opportunity
The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks a qualified Administrative Assistant to support the office of the Associate Director for Collections. Reporting to the Associate Director for Collections, the Administrative Assistant manages day-to-day tasks for the Associate Director to include budgeting and financial reporting, scheduling meetings, travel, and managing communications with internal and external colleagues and vendors. Additionally, the Administrative Assistant will work closely with support staff for other Museum senior staff and leadership across the Getty Trust. Work will involve significant confidential material, complex travel and scheduling requirements, and will require discretion, diplomacy and tact.
Effective communication skills are required for the position. Ability to be adept with standard industry systems and applications including Outlook; Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); Adobe Acrobat. Experience with PeopleSoft Financials a plus.
The Getty Research Institute (GRI) is seeking a limited-term Archivist I to facilitate description and access to the GRI’s unique materials. The focus of this position will be to enhance description of the Photo Archive, a collection of over 2 million documentary photographs of western art from antiquity through the early 20th century, organized by chronology, medium and culture. This is a fifteen-month limited-term position.
Reporting to the Special Collections Archivist III who will oversee the project, the Archivist I will concentrate on issues of arrangement and discovery in several large painting and drawing collections, especially Italian and French. They will provide folder-level description of sections of the archive, finalize DACS-compliant finding aids for those sections, and update MARC records in the repository’s catalog and in OCLC. A substantial element of the position involves identifying works of art depicted in the photographs. The archivist should be able to visually classify paintings and drawings by national/regional schools and chronological periods.

The focus of this position will be to enhance description of the Photo Archive, a collection of over 2 million documentary photographs of western art from antiquity through the early twentieth century, organized by chronology, medium and culture. This is a one-year limited-term position.
Reporting to the Special Collections Archivist III who will oversee the project, the Library Assistant II will concentrate on increasing discovery of material by adding folder-level description to existing box-level finding aids for the various sections of the Photo Archive. They will also work on basic maintenance tasks, such as replacing loose box labels, placing fragile or damaged photographs in Mylar sleeves and creating circulation records.
Performs grounds maintenance activities required for care of fine gardens, public and back of house areas as well as unimproved areas of Getty properties.
Getty seeks nominations and applications for an experienced, energetic, and creative manager to oversee the Institutional Records and Archives Department. The department is administratively located in the Getty Research Institute (GRI) and is in charge of selecting, preserving, and managing institutional records of past, current, and future programmatic units of the Getty in all media formats. It is also in charge of maintaining a records management program, including developing and monitoring retention schedules, managing inactive records stored offsite, developing strategies and policies for managing electronic records, and advising on managing active records.
Reporting to the GRI Associate Director of Collections & Discovery and working in close partnership with staff across the organization, the Head of Institutional Records and Archives will manage a highly integrated records and archives department. The candidate must have extensive knowledge of archives and records management practices for both analog and digital formats and demonstrate a willingness to work in partnership toward integrating access to information assets across the organization. The position is charged with the care, preservation, and management of the Getty’s records and with ensuring that the information is available for staff business needs and eventually for a broader public audience. In addition to being adynamic working member of the department, the Head supervises four full-time professional staff and occasional limited-term staff, volunteers, and interns.
