  • Job Summary

    Selects and purchases jewelry of appropriate cultural context for exhibitions and permanent collections for retail sale, generating revenue for the Retail & Merchandise Development Department while supporting the Getty's mission and standards and enhancing the visitors' experience at all store locations.

    Major Job Responsibilities

    • Researches, selects, and purchases jewelry for retail sale at the Getty Center and Villa stores and the online shop
    • Manages a budget for each fiscal year, reporting monthly to the General Merchandise Manager on the status of investment funds and of sales goals
    • Creates and monitors purchase orders and maintains appropriate inventory levels for all store locations
    • Establishes and verifies terms of business with vendors
    • Ensures that most profitable and cost-effective practices are implemented within the department
    • Merchandises and maintains displays at all store locations


    • GED/ High School
    • Bachelor's degree and/or relevant related experience in specialty retail / bookstore
    • 3-5 years Buyer experience

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Public speaking
    • Solid negotiating skills
    • Knowledge of inventory control procedures
    • Analytical skills and advanced math skills
    • Familiarity with budget management and annual reports and projections
    • Strong knowledge of accounting procedures necessary
    • Must be comfortable in deadline-driven environment
    • Requires flexibility to react to the ever changing needs of a fast-paced business
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a Team
    • Some travel required US and Int'l
