Job Summary

The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks a creative Video Producer/Editor responsible for planning, filming, editing, and delivering compelling video content in support of our ambitious display, education, and exhibition programs. This is a 6-month limited term position reporting to the Executive Producer, Digital Media within the division of Education, Public Programs, and Interpretive Content. The Video Producer/Editor will play a leading role in the development, planning, and hands-on creation of interpretive media about the Getty’s collection and activities. The successful candidate will bring media scripts to life using up-to-date production techniques and equipment, and will have a keen creative and visual style demonstrated through an existing portfolio of high-quality video work.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of up-to-date media production techniques to the planning and execution of video projects from start to finish.
  • Efficiently deliver high-quality, creative video that excites and engages our audiences
  • Work with our team of writers, producers, educators, and scholars to develop audience-driven video content with focused storylines that looks at art in refreshing and platform-appropriate ways
  • Invigorate art history for contemporary audiences
  • Consistently execute established team strategy and priorities
  • Operate state-of-the-art camera equipment and editing software
  • Plan and schedule multiple overlapping projects and deliver them on time and on budget
  • Serves as media project team leader, working with content creators, designers, production staff and external contractors
  • Mentor junior media staff in production skills
  • Diplomatically gather and respond to stakeholder feedback
  • Problem solves creative and practical concerns of various stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably related to digital media production
  • Substantive experience in media production and project management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have extensive communication, negotiation and mediation skills
  • Mastery of media creation and production tools
  • Ability to produce multiple projects on time and within budget
  • Ability to lead a production team

  • Proven experience planning and executing budgets

  • Proven experience drafting and negotiating contracts
  • Experience in educational or documentary media is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of video production and post-production techniques, software, and standards, including hands-on DSLR and cine-camera skills, on-set audio recording, media ingestion, color grading with LUTs, and expertise in the use of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, including Adobe Premiere and After Effects
  • Some experience conducting and recording interviews preferred
  • Skill in visualizing and shooting concepts creatively and effectively
  • Ability to deliver clear, effective creative notes to vendors and colleagues, and to receive and incorporate them from stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to bring energy, enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity to the team every day
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to set priorities, and juggle competing demands
  • The position requires tact, diplomacy, teamwork, and the ability to collaborate with a wide range of project participants in a positive environment
