Job Summary

Identifies and coordinates the maintenance of ideal merchandise inventory levels necessary to ensure Department meets or exceeds annual goals for revenue, margin, turn, and gross margin return on investment (GMROI) at Center, Villa, and online store locations.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains the merchandise expenditure budget, balancing investment in new merchandise with the replenishment needs for "hot items" and core product
  • Prepares trending and stock‐to‐sales reports to assess merchandise turn rate at the Department, Class, Vendor, and Item levels
  • Determines replenishment need in advance of stock depletion and ensures the timely placement of reorders
  • Apportions a percentage of the annual merchandise investment budget for inventory replenishment and places reorders directly and/or with the help of Merchandise Buyers to ensure consistent stock levels
  • Evaluates investment in new merchandise by weighing the potential costs of orders proposed by Merchandise Buyers against existing commitments, budget remaining, past performance of like items, and available display space. Increases or decreases item and dollar totals accordingly and prepares purchase recommendations for approval by Manager before orders are placed
  • Assists Merchandise Buyers with SKU rationalizations and avoidance of over‐assortment
  • Assesses product liabilities and implements exit strategies to recoup investment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2‐3 years experience in retail inventory planning or purchasing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Analytical and advanced math skills
  • Strong knowledge of accounting procedures necessary
  • Knowledge of inventory control procedures
  • Familiarity with budget management and annual reports and projections
  • Solid negotiation skills
  • Management and mentoring skills
  • Must be comfortable in a deadline‐driven environment
  • Requires flexibility to react to the ever changing needs of a fast‐paced business
  • Proficiency in Excel. Familiarity with inventory management software such a WinRetail desired but not required
